Reporter’s Roundtable at NPC to Discuss Barriers Facing the Formerly Incarcerated

Reentry Reform Event to Feature Formerly Incarcerated, Employers and Advocates

Washington, D.C., March 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Prison Fellowship, the nation’s largest Christian nonprofit serving prisoners, former prisoners, and their families; and The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a national organization to promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States; are hosting a reporter’s roundtable at the National Press Club to discuss reentry reform issues on Wednesday, March 28th beginning at 1:00pm.

What:    Second Chances: Removing Barriers to Returning Citizens—a Second Chance Month event.

Where: National Press Club, 13th Floor, First Amendment Lounge, 529 14th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20045.

Prison Fellowship’s President & CEO James Ackerman and The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights’ President & CEO Vanita Gupta will provide remarks and you will hear from a panel of directly impacted people and experts including:

  • Dennis Avila – A formerly incarcerated individual who now owns his own company and non-profit: Sharp Roofing and Contracting, LLC and H.E.A.T. Inc.;
  • Lily Gonzales, community organizer at A New Way of Life Reentry Project and directly impacted person;
  • Bonnie Mroczek, Chief Talent Officer of Butterball Farms, a fair chance employer; and
  • Judy Conti, Federal Advocacy Coordinator from National Employment Law Project.
