The Mii Amo destination spa in Sedona, Ariz., has reopened after a two-year closure and a $40 million renovation and expansion. The property’s footprint increased by more than 40 percent to approximately 42,000 square feet. Additions include a new sensory garden; a new signature restaurant, Hummingbird; a two-story movement and fitness studio; a reflexology path; and redesigned and enhanced public spaces including a dedicated consultation wing. The expansion also includes 16 renovated casitas in addition to seven new Casita rooms and suites for a total of 23 guestrooms.
As part of the renovation, an additional 3,700 square feet of space was developed for overnight guests to elevate the level of privacy while still encouraging connections and community building. These include a private relaxation lounge, a plunge pool and garden and the Journey lounge with views of the Kachina Woman rock formation that stands at the entrance to Boynton Canyon. The Journey Lounge has a fireplace, lounge chairs, a library and space for lectures and presentations. Overnight guests also have a private concierge space with dedicated onsite guides.
Public Areas
The property’s architecture is meant to inspire inward exploration while connecting guests to the canyon. Designed to be experiential and heighten the overall sense of place, Mii Amo’s rooms open up to the natural landscape and use earth-colored concrete, wood, adobe brick and stucco. Mii Amo’s original architect, Gluckman Tang, returned to expand its original design.
Outdoor features at Mii Amo now include a labyrinth, a hammock grove and a yoga lawn, all with views of the surrounding red rock walls and formations. The pool, updated with a new deck and furnishings, looks out over Boynton Canyon. In the Living Room, a new sunken seating lounge lets guests relax while private niches line the perimeter of the room. A wood-burning fireplace adds warmth to the space.
Casitas
In addition to a full renovation of Mii Amo’s existing 16 casitas, guestrooms and suites, three new Casita buildings were added with seven new accommodations for a total of 23 rooms. All accommodations, arranged within a quiet courtyard compound, include fireplaces, private outdoor spaces and heated bathroom floors. The new suites include their own private courtyards with fireplaces and outdoor seating, and most offer soaking tubs with views of Boynton Canyon.
Spa & Well-being
The property’s spa facilities now include 26 treatment rooms and private consultation spaces: 14 single massage rooms, three facial rooms, two wet rooms, one sound lounge room and one couple’s massage room as well as an all-new consultation wing with a dedicated relaxation space and five consultation rooms for sessions with therapists.
The new 3,300-square-foot fitness and movement studios provide space for both private and group instruction and overlook the property’s sensory garden.
