MBABANE – Eswatini footballers are set to benefit from a major training programme that will ensure that they export their skills to overseas clubs, especially in Italy.

The initiative is styled Socca Dream ‘Serie A’ football programme. Serie A is simply Italy’s top division league that features renowned teams that include Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli, among others. According to its official website, Socca Dream is a South African company specialising on international football scouting and character development of young aspiring footballers.

The main focus is to identify young and talented male and female footballers in Africa and creating lifetime opportunities in a bid to fulfill their dreams of becoming professional footballers and responsible citizens in their respective communities. According to the facilitators, the programme is open to selected countries in the southern Africa. In no particular order, they include Eswatini, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia and Lesotho. The programme will give the beneficiaries basics and the skills needed to play in the European leagues.

“At the end of the programme, players will have the possibilities to travel to Italy for trials in our partners’ club,” reads the invitation in part.
The programme to be undertaken in Johannesburg, South Africa, is open to players from all the selected countries. It will start at the end of this month (next week). It offers accommodation for players not living in Johannesburg. The focus this year, it was established, will be mainly on helping countries like Eswatini that have potential but struggling to produce players for the big stage.

Eswatini’s renowned FIFA agent Dingane Maduma said he was aware of Socca Dream, but politely asked to be given time to enquire about the latest invitation. This publication wanted to establish if he could assist teams interested in taking their players to Johannesburg for assessment.
Finer details on the programme that include the logistics on joining are available on +27 62 6371260 or at info@soccadream.com.

Currently, there is no local player playing professionally in Europe except for juniors who are attached to academies abroad. They include Mbabane Swallows Under-15 midfielder Sabusiswa Maseko, who recently left for South Africa for training assessment to prepare him for an attachment with AC Milan Academy later this year.
